What’s Happening: Spooky Edition, October 26 to November 8
Eight strange plans for Halloween week and beyond.

Halloween is Saturday, and the strange stuff doesn’t stop when the candy runs out. Here are eight plans I’d actually leave the house for, from the Oregon Symphony playing Psycho live to a convention center full of taxidermy and bones.

The details
Wednesday, October 28
Psycho in Concert
Wed, Oct. 28 · 7:30 p.m. · Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway · From $20 (listings show $20 to $125) · All ages per listings
Hitchcock’s Psycho on the big screen while the Oregon Symphony’s strings play Bernard Herrmann’s score live. About 2 hours 14 minutes with one intermission.
Timmy’s Take: You know those shower-scene violins? This time they’re real, and they’re right in front of you.
Thursday, October 29
Grand Lodge Ghost Tour
Thu, Oct. 29 · 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. · McMenamins Grand Lodge, 3505 Pacific Ave, Forest Grove · $20 · All ages, tickets from age 3
A 60 to 75 minute walk through a former Masonic home and its ghost stories. Meet in the foyer across from the front desk. Stairs and lots of standing.
Timmy’s Take: An old Masonic home with a pub downstairs. The ghosts picked a good place to stay.
Thursday, October 29 to Sunday, November 1
The Woman in Black
Thu to Sat 7:30 p.m. · Sun, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. (closing) · The Vault Theater, 350 E Main St, Hillsboro · $30 plus fees · Recommended 8+
Bag&Baggage’s two-actor ghost play, where a rehearsal slowly becomes a real haunting. The company warns it’s genuinely frightening.
Timmy’s Take: Two actors, one small room and a lot of jumping in your seat. Closing weekend, so go now.
Saturday, October 31
Altares y Muertos Tour
Sat, Oct. 31 · Gather 11:30 a.m., tour noon to 3 p.m. · Meet at El Zócalo at El Centro Milagro, 537 SE Stark St · Free or pay what you wish · Reserve a spot online
A guided walk or bike ride past the Central Eastside’s Día de Muertos altars. Every guest gets a silk marigold garland, and there are prizes for the best costumes.
Timmy’s Take: Free marigolds, beautiful altars and a good excuse to bike in costume on Halloween.
Blade Rave
Sat, Oct. 31 · 9 p.m. · Hawthorne Theatre, 1507 SE 39th Ave · $22.50 to $35.49 · 21+ with photo ID · No refunds
A vampire rave straight out of Blade, with goth, techno and house DJs, go-go dancers, themed cocktails and a midnight bloodbath.
Timmy’s Take: Wear black, bring the fangs, and maybe leave the white sneakers at home this time.
Sunday, November 1
Twin Peaks Sunday
Sun, Nov. 1 · 2 to 9 p.m. · Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton St · $25 · Autographs and photos extra
The Missing Pieces plus the first two episodes of The Return, with Gary Hershberger (Mike Nelson) in person for a Q&A.
Timmy’s Take: Bring a thermos of coffee. Seven hours of Lynch is the best Halloween hangover cure in town.
Through Sunday, November 8
Dead Media Video Rentals
Through Nov. 8 · Thu, Oct. 29 and Sun, Nov. 1, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. · Fri, Oct. 30 and Sat, Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. · Mon to Wed 2 to 8 p.m. · Mike Bennett Studios, 707 NE Fremont St · Free · All ages · ADA accessible
A walk-through haunt built inside a VHS rental store by Portland artist Mike Bennett. Not scary, just a little spooky. Check the studio’s page for hours after November 1.
Timmy’s Take: Be kind, rewind. A free haunt for the whole family with a big dose of video store nostalgia.
Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8
Oddities & Curiosities Expo
Sat, Nov. 7 + Sun, Nov. 8 · 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. · Oregon Convention Center, Halls C to E, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd · $20 at the door · 12 and under free · Classes extra
Taxidermy, bones, wet specimens, antiques and dark art filling three convention halls. Buy only through the official site, since fake event pages circulate.
Timmy’s Take: Halloween is over, but the bones are still for sale. Start your strange collection here.
Halloween night in Montavilla
Business trick-or-treating runs along SE Stark and NE Glisan from 11 a.m. on Saturday. Nightmare on Taylor St opens at 5 p.m. near SE 80th Ave and SE Taylor St. Full disclosure, this one is close to my heart.
